Salsa Highlight: Configuring a Double-Opt In Signup Page
Submitted Fri May 20 2011 12:20:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)Greetings!
It's the "Salsa Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.
This week, we thought we'd unpack a common question: how do you configure a double opt-in signup page?
By default, Salsa signup pages land a new signer-upper on your list with only a single-step opt-in: that is, as soon as your prospective supporter completes the page, s/he is on your list. No fuss, no muss!
However, you can choose to require a higher level of supporter permission by instead having your signup pages initiate one of those "are you sure you want to join this list?" emails. Your list will grow more slowly, but may comprise more motivated supporters.

It's the "Salsa Weekly Highlight," your quick hit on what's what in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.
We recently highlighted Salsa's tools for personalizing thank-you pages with the name of your donor or supporter after s/he takes action.
Today, we're going to translate that same trick to the automated Email Triggers your action pages launch.
Personalized Email Triggers
I hope you're already using Email Triggers widely to thank your supporters when they join, give, register, or take action on your Salsa pages.
When someone likes you that much, why settle for "Dear Supporter"? Personalized greetings like "Dear Adam" show the recipient that you care.

We're often asked about how to make acknowledgment messages to supporters as personal as possible. So the focus of this week's highlight is personalized thank-you pages using Salsa's merge fields.
Personalized Thank-You Pages
Thank-You Pages are a special type of Salsa content intended for use as a custom redirect from your other action and donation pages.
You can have these pages deliver personalized messages like "Thanks, Leslie!" in two easy steps.

We're often asked about options to keep old campaigns, donation pages, events, and other aging Salsa data out from underfoot.
After all, it's a pain to pick through long lists of historical actions just to get the few ongoing ones you need to see. And you don't want to delete them outright and lose their data.
Solution: just archive them.

This week, I just wanted to remind you to avoid copying and pasting from Microsoft Word into Salsa (and probably into most any other online design tool you might use).
I know, I know. It looks like it should work. Lay out page in familiar Word interface, copy, paste it into web page or email blast. Easy, right?
Unfortunately, appearances are deceiving in this case.

This week's feature is one that I hope you've been making use of already: Salsa's expanded menus of built-in reports. My favorite thing about these system reports is that you can grab copies for your own headquarters, and customize them to your needs!

Events
Wednesday's events release upgraded the page flow of our events system, and streamlined the events creation process. Bottom line: it's easier:
- to manage your events (attendee status can be updated in bulk, and events that don't require registration can now be created)
- for supporters to sign up (information is carried over better from screen to screen)
- and, for supporters to manage their own distributed events (navigation links added throughout)

I've got a great little feature to share with you this week to give your pages more user-friendly web address URLs ... like
/o/9999/signup_page/join-us
Instead of
/o/9999/p/salsa/web/common/public/signup?signup_page_KEY=9999
As of yesterday, you should have started seeing this new feature available in all Salsa-built pages (except Actions and Events), in the floating yellow box where you can also switch the page's template.
