Food for Thought School Breakfast Campaign Kick-off

Join ACNJ for the release of its new report on school breakfast on September 28 in Perth Amboy, which is now providing classroom breakfast in all its preschools, elementary and middle schools.

The report documents New Jersey’s low rate of participation in this critical nutritional program and details easy ways that districts with large populations of low-income students can expand participation – often without any extra cost. The event kicks off ACNJ’s Food For Thought School Breakfast Campaign.

Research shows a good breakfast improves test scores and reduces discipline problems and trips to the school nurse.

At the campaign launch, ACNJ Executive Director Cecilia Zalkind will present the report’s findings and recommendations, while Perth Amboy staff will offer an instructional look at how they overcame logistical concerns to launch breakfast in the classroom. NJ Department of Children and Families Commissioner Allison Blake will also join us to discuss her department's efforts on this important issue. State and national experts will discuss successful school breakfast movements in New Jersey and other states.

Please join us in this first step toward expanding this critical child nutrition program in New Jersey. Register today!
