Dear Supporter,

Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez will testify tomorrow before the state Assembly Budget Committee about the department’s $6.3 billion budget.

Send a message to the committee requesting that they question Commissioner Velez about the hurtful cuts to child care for low-income families.

Over the past several years, New Jersey has reduced spending by $42 million on various child care programs, even as more than 10,000 children languish on a waiting list. This assistance is more urgent as a growing number of families struggle to meet their child’s basic needs.

The budget committee should ask the Commissioner how the department is addressing the child care waiting list and whether the $42 million in cut funds is being re-invested in children.

Send a message today. The hearing is tomorrow. It takes just a minute to influence budget negotiations so kids win.

Sincerely,

Cecilia Zalkind
