Dear Supporter:

We have tremendous news to share! A full package of bills is moving through the state Legislature that would strengthen the state’s investment in early childhood care and education, promising to improve the health, education and care of our youngest children.

The measures call for:

  • Expanding preschool
  • Establishing a state child care tax credit
  • Implementing an innovation fund for early childhood services
  • Creating a new state Department of Early Childhood
  • Requiring full-day kindergarten
  • Restoring funding for before- and after-preschool child care services

We have a lot of work to do to move these bills through the legislative process. Some of the measures have cleared an initial committee, but must be approved by the budget committees in both houses and then be signed into law by the governor. In others, we are working with legislators to adjust the measures to address certain concerns.

We will be sending periodic messages about the status of the bills and ways that you can get involved to support these critical initiatives.

ACNJ and its many partners have advocated for years for a broader, more comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of young children and their families. These proposals reflect those efforts and would significantly advance our goal of building a strong and effective early learning system in New Jersey. We look forward to continuing that work with you to make these measures a reality for thousands of young children across the state.

Sincerely,

Cecilia Zalkind
