ACNJ welcomes new board member José Carlos Montes

José Carlos Montes is the Chief Executive Officer of the Puerto Rican Action Board, which provides early childhood, youth, family, energy conservation, immigration, housing, and community services to approximately 30,000 individuals annually in 12 sites across central New Jersey. Mr. Montes' wealth of experience, ranging from community-based operations, community capacity building and youth development demonstrates his fervent support of youth, family, and community development efforts. 

Mr. Montes is a product of the South Bronx and its public schools.  An ordained minister, he holds a Master of Divinity in Bible and Theology from the Alliance Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Yale University.

Newark Kids Count 2017 Now Available

ACNJ released its latest report on the well-being of Newark's children.  The Newark Kids Count 2017 is now available on our website.  New this year is an interactive tool that gives you the ability to view and compare PARCC scores for Newark public and charters schools.

Center for the Study of Social Policy Issues Latest Federal Monitor Report

On Tuesday, the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) issued its latest report as part of the federal class-action lawsuit Charlie and Nadine H. v. Christie. The report outlines the progress made to date to reform New Jersey’s child welfare system.

Latest SCOTUS Ruling Reinforces Educational Rights of Students with Disabilities

On March 22, 2017, the U.S. Supreme Court made a unanimous decision that will help children with disabilities across the country. In Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District, the Court ruled that a school district must provide an education to a student with disabilities that is “reasonably calculated to enable a child to make progress appropriate in light of the child’s circumstances.”

Data Entry Position Now Available

ACNJ has a temporary part-time position to assist in data entry and maintenance.  The position responsibilities include entering and updating contact information and ensuring accuracy, as well as exporting and formatting lists for mail merges. The person hired will also assist with the organization's website by updating and editing content. Experience with the SALSA content management platform and Wordpress website management platform desired.
