What’s Sandy’s Impact on Kids?

We know that Superstorm Sandy had a huge impact on children across New Jersey. Many were displaced from their homes, schools and child care centers. Parents are stressed, as they try to rebuild their lives. This isn’t likely to get better anytime soon for the many families who lost their homes, as they live in temporary arrangements for some time. ACNJ is examining the impact this storm has had on children and ways we might be able to help as we move forward.

If you have a story you would like to share, please email nparello@acnj.org.

Thanks for your advocacy!

As the year draws to a close, we’d like to say thanks for contacting your legislators and other decision-makers on behalf of children, attending ACNJ events to learn more about how you can help children and showing your support for children in other ways.

Your efforts paid off.

This year, we succeeded in reducing the child care waiting list so that thousands of children are now in safe child care settings while their parents work. We succeeded in ensuring that nearly 30,000 more students receive a healthy breakfast at school each day, translating to about 5 million more meals over the course of the school year. And we were able to call attention to successful efforts to keep juveniles out of detention and on the path to productive adulthood, setting the stage for future juvenile justice reforms.

So thank you for all your efforts. These are big wins for kids. Please stay tuned for a busy and productive 2013. Best wishes from ACNJ for a safe, happy holiday.
