April 2013 More Evidence Shows It’s Time to Expand Preschool! New Jersey’s state-funded preschool continues making a difference in young children’s lives! The latest findings from the National Institute for Early Education Research’s (NIEER) longitudinal preschool study showed significant student gains in literacy, language, math and science from the fourth and fifth grade. In fact, they were on average three-quarters of an academic year ahead of similar students who didn’t attend. The “collective voice” is growing to expand this successful program to other low-income preschoolers. The March 26th Opinion page of the Star Ledger stated that the study’s findings are so encouraging, that our state should be expanding preschool to all needy students!! Read the NIEER report.
