Advocates for Children of New Jersey recently welcomed four new members to serve on its Board of Trustees. Each bring a unique perspective, talents and skills to furthering our work to improve the lives of all New Jersey children. Please join us in welcoming these new board members.

Darrin Anderson, Deputy Director, NJ Partnership for Healthy Kids
Darrin heads the five-city Partnership for Healthy Kids, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and has been a partner in ACNJ’s school breakfast campaign and special report on child nutrition in Newark, released last June.

He is also the associate director of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance, where he is liaison for the 41 corporate YMCA’s in New Jersey. Darrin has extensive experience in public policy on health and healthy lifestyles. He holds a BA and MA in health, physical education and biological sciences from the University of Delaware and a Ph.D. in kinesiology from Temple University, as well as certifications in nonprofit management, leadership, financial development and evaluation.

Cynthia Crenshaw, Manager, Investor Bank’s Sanford Avenue office in Newark, NJ
Cynthia’s 30-year banking career began when she was hired as a teller for Howard Savings Bank in Newark. She was promoted to teller supervisor and remained with Howard Bank until its acquisition by First Fidelity.

Cynthia joined the Investor’s team in 1993 as a part-time teller and received several promotions on her journey to branch manager.

An active member of her community, Cynthia has volunteered her time supporting numerous organizations in and around Newark. These include: Christ the King Preparatory School, The Young Ladies Etiquette Club of Ivy Hill Elementary School, Ivy Hill Neighborhood Association, Union Chapel Community Development Corp. of Newark, the Salvation Army, Essex County Juvenile Detention Center (Sojourn High School), New Hope Baptist Church of East Orange, and proud member of the Rotary Club of Newark, NJ and a member of Newark Regional Business Partnership. Cynthia attended Essex County College and resides in Hillside with her family.

F. Lee Forrester, Retired Judge, NJ Superior Court, Vicinage 7 (Mercer)
Judge Forrester served as a judge from 1992 until his retirement in June 2014. He presided primarily over juvenile cases and is a strong advocate for youth in the juvenile justice system. He co-chaired the NJ Council on Juvenile Justice System Reform and has served for many years as a member of the NJ Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Committee.

Judge Forrester was with the Department of Public Advocate, Mercer Division, for 14 years, prior to bring appointed to the bench. He is a nationally-recognized expert on the juvenile justice system.

Jennifer Robinson, Executive Director, Center of Pedagogy at Montclair State University
Jennifer Robinson is on the faculty of Montclair State University and heads the Center of Pedagogy the College of Education and Human Services. Her areas of research are strategies for increasing the diversity of the teaching force, pre-service teacher education and school/university partnerships.

She earned an EdD, MA and Med from Columbia University and a BA from Northwestern University. She was recently named as one of 30 university and school district educators in the nation designated as an AED Scholar for her continuing contributions to the Agenda for Education in a Democracy at the Institute for Educational Inquiry.
