Dear Supporter,

Child care, Head Start and preschool will receive additional federal funding under a spending plan that Congress approved last week. In addition, about 219,000 New Jersey families will keep tax credits that help low-income families make ends meet.

Your support helped score these victories for children! Please help us secure more wins for kids in 2016 with a tax-deductible, year-end donation.

Federal Budget Highlights
The bipartisan agreement makes permanent the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), which helps lift tens of thousands of families out of poverty.

It also provides:

  • A $326 million increase for the Child Care Development Block Grant, which provides child care assistance to thousands of children.
  • A $570 million increase for Head Start. Some of these dollars will fund an increase in the hours of Head Start operation, while earmarking $135 million for Early Head Start, Early Head Start-Child Care partnerships and conversions from Head Start to Early Head Start.
  • A $15 million increase in preschool grants and a $20 million increase in grants for infants and families.
  • $250 million for new Preschool Development Grants under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

In addition, the measure provides an $18 million increase for summer meals assistance for families and eliminates a requirement that the program be available only to families living in high-poverty communities.

All this adds up to supports that can help NJ kids grow up safe, healthy and educated – giving them a better chance for a brighter future.

Please support ACNJ as we build on these successes for kids in 2016.

Happy holidays from all of us at ACNJ to you and yours!

Sincerely,

Cecilia Zalkind
