New school breakfast report to be released Dec. 12!Advocates for Children of New Jersey will release its annual report on school breakfast in New Jersey, as well as fact sheets for each county that show breakfast participation for all districts that have at least 20 percent of students eligible for free or low-cost school breakfast. In the six years that ACNJ has been co-leading the New Jersey Food for Thought Campaign, breakfast participation has soared more than 70 percent, while federal breakfast reimbursements going directly to New Jersey schools has more than doubled. We will be sending the report out electronically so be sure to check your inbox. Summer meals roundtable helps communities feed more kidsACNJ and the New Jersey Anti-Hunger Coalition, along with community partners, organized Summer Meals Strategy Roundtables in Bergen and Atlantic counties this fall. Summer meal sponsors, school districts, representatives from municipal government and community organizations attended to identify effective ways that communities can work together to implement successful summer meals programs. From contracting with vendors that can provide quality food to promoting meal sites in communities, participants identified various ways to expand summer meal participation. When school is out, many New Jersey children face hunger without school meals and when family budgets are stretched especially tight. If you are interested in organizing a roundtable in your county, please contact Nancy Parello at nparello@acnj.org.
