At last: an increase in child care subsidy rates for child care programs that improve quality
New Jersey child care providers received some good news today. Centers rated at a three stars or above in Grow NJ Kids, the state’s public child care rating system will see a small boost in their subsidy reimbursement rate. These subsidies help low-income working families pay for child care.

ACNJ has advocated for this subsidy rate increase since the state started Grow NJ Kids in 2011. Programs can improve quality but need funding to sustain it. Although the rate increase is welcomed news after ten years of inaction, it does not go far enough to help cover the true cost for quality child care, especially for infants. Still, it is a step in the right direction.
